Abstract

In the fall of 1983, television viewers tuned into ABC to watch nuclear missiles destroy eastern Kansas. Filmed in Lawrence and Kansas City, the TV movie "The Day After" was a loud voice in the national debate over the threat of nuclear weapons during the Cold War's twilight years.
