A Relational Pedagogy: A YoungMILE in our Decolonising Social Work Practice Journey

This chapter explores the relational pedagogy we discovered-or, more accurately, the pedagogy that discovered us while we dreamt, designed, developed and facilitated the Young Migrant Leadership Program YoungMILE). YoungMILE has been a leadership development, training and mentorship program that included ten aspiring leaders from within the refugee arrived communities of Hobart, Tasmania, aged between 25 and 35. YoungMILE formally began with a thirteen-week leadership development course for mentees, followed by a twelve-month mentoring experience in which each mentee was paired with a relevant community and/or industry mentor.
