Brian Jackson and the Southern Gospel Choir

performance
posted on 2023-05-25, 13:11 authored by Andrew LeggAndrew Legg

Brian Jackson (USA) and the Southern Gospel Choir present songs of Jackson and Gil- Scott Heron and Nina Simone.

Legg takes the principles and practices established in his previous publications (Taxonomy) and applies them in a new field - Protest Music, New Soul and the music of Gill Scott Herron and Nina Simone. Brian Jackson's music is political , historically and culturally challenging and as relevant to the world in the 1970's as it is today. Legg will need to manipulate and adapt the sound and approach of the SGC and band to accomodate Jackson's freedom of expression, and recontextualisation/transculturialisation of his music into the contemporary Australian and international context of MOFO.
