Background and project governance: The Development of a minimum dataset for a National Health Information Workforce Census project was a one-year study to develop the minimum dataset required for a future census. A national health information workforce census is needed to enable the evaluation and monitoring of this workforce to understand the workforce composition and future configuration (Butler-Henderson et al, 2016). The project was governed by a HIW Census Management group, consisting of representatives from academia and industry.
