Jane Elizabeth
This exhibition in a National Trust house evoked aspects of the story of a woman who lived there over 150 years ago, Jane Elizabeth Wylde. Records of the scandal and gossip surrounding Jane prior to her arrival in Van Diemen’s Land are sparse and from the perspectives of society, institutions and the men in her life. This five part exhibition uses sound installations, prints, textiles and installed objects in Jane’s home to literally and metaphorically represent the artists’ imagining of her memories and feelings, exploring how the lives of a house’s occupants become embedded or woven into its fabric.
