Abstract
This six-volume history cells the story of art in the history of Tasmania. It
is a history of art made in Tasmania, or about Tasmania, by people who
have been born in or lived or travelled to Tasmania, or who are simply
intrigued by some aspect about Tasmania, from Aboriginal art and the art of
the early European explorers to art made at the beginning of the twenty-first
century. This volume covers art made in Tasmania up to the 1960s. Volume
two continues this story, covering art made in Tasmania from the 1960s.
Volume three looks at printmaking, sculpture and photography that have
been created in Tasmania. Volume four, 'Expatriates and Visitors', includes
artists who have left Tasmania to make art elsewhere, artists who have visited
Tasmania to make art there, and artists generally living outside this state
who have made art that refers to Tasmania and aspects of its history in any
way. The fifth volume of this history mainly examines the Museum of Old
and New Art while volume six discusses such art museums as the Tasmanian
Museum and Art Gallery and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery
chat are briefly mentioned in this volume.
