High Tech: High Co$t: Technology, Society and the Environment

The contributors to this book are sharing their perception of such issues - their excitement about the science they do, their hopes and their fears - and in some cases suggesting ways out of the problems which currently beset us. They do not necessarily write as experts propounding the answer, though many of them ar~ at the cutting edge of research and two are Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science; but they are all motivated by a sense of urgency and responsibility to explain to non-scientists the issues arising from their research. They write from a wide cross-section of fields, from the theoretical to the applied, from the physical, biological and social sciences.
