Abstract

The D'Entrecasteaux Channel has been closed to recreational scallop fishers for the past six years due to over fishing. The latest survey of the channel carried out by IMAS has shown no improvement in the scallop numbers and the area will remain closed for scallops. Dr Jeremy Lyle who carried out the survey says their recommendation is to keep the waterway closed to scallop fishing.
