Hedley Bull and the Accommodation of Power

This book by Robert Ayson engages with extensive archival material to describe a ‘synthesis’ of Hedley Bull’s interests in strategic studies and his more widely known work on international relations theory. It is highly successful in revealing many overlooked aspects of Bull’s work, but at times disappoints by failing to incorporate the wealth of primary sources into a more focused conceptual analysis.
