Cradle Coast NRM in partnership with the University of Tasmania aims to increase understanding of temperate saltmarshes (tidal saltwater wetlands) in the Cradle Coast Region of Tasmania, for planning and management, and to enable community-based monitoring of these wetlands through the provision of monitoring and information materials.

A total of 1747 ha of saltmarsh wetlands have been mapped across Cradle Coast NRM Region. An additional 254 ha the exotic Spartina marshland has been mapped in the Region. The mapping of saltmarsh wetlands was accompanied by collection of important ecological and management related information such as vegetation type, related waterbodies, land tenure and relevant care groups.

The mapped native saltmarsh and Spartina marshland areas along with an information synthesis are presented through an Atlas of Coastal Saltmarsh Wetlands in the Cradle Coast Region of Tasmania in a publicly accessible format. Other project outputs include public presentation of project findings and provision of monitoring resources for community groups and individuals including plant identification guide for saltmarsh wetlands, monitoring checklists, an online App to record monitoring data and a copy of the Atlas.
