Human development and health promotion
Understanding the processes of human development and the changes that individuals progress through as they age and maturate socially, cognitively and psychologically is important for research, teaching, and service regarding human lifespan development in many contexts, ranging from schools to health care.
Individuals working with children, particularly students, need to have a thorough understanding of health and development across the lifespan of an individual, from the prenatal stage, through childhood to the end of adulthood. For each lifespan stage, it is important to identify and understand issues that affect the human development of a population. By working within a health promotion framework, this understanding will be enhanced and adverse health conditions minimised.
