Data with both multidimensional and hierarchical features has widely existed in many scientific disciplines. The completely different spatial representation of the two features makes it difficult to visualize. In this paper, we propose a radial-based layout visualization method, MDHViz, for exploring and analyzing of such kind of data in an efficient way. It smoothly integrates circular layout parallel coordinates into radial tree, keeping a full radial space-filling methodology as well as offering a high space-efficiency and better extensibility. With rich and flexible interactions, our design maintains a balance between visualization of both overview and the detailed view. Case study based on our implemented visulization system demonstrates the effectiveness of our design for the exploration of both the multidimensional and hierarchical patterns hidden in the original dataset.
