Due to increasing requests for protein electrophoresis, a modern private laboratory developed new tools used for the investigation of plasma cell myeloma (multiple myeloma). This involved the introduction of newer more efficient instrumental technology and moving from paper based record keeping systems to a sophisticated electronic data storage system. Central to this system is the graphic user interface which allows the rapid sharing of data between the laboratory information system, instrumentation and electronic worksheets. The electronic format of data storage has permitted the development of rapid data retrieval for access to pertinent information for the correlation of protein study results at the touch of a button. This new system of efficient data retrieval permits increased productivity and the delivery of high quality results in a complex area of analysis that requires correlation of many results.
