The aesthetic perspective: Terror, trasgedy and the value of art
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the nature and value of art and to chart a philosophy of art that is functionally normative. That is, rather than pursuing a conceptual definition of art grounded on essential attributes shared by all artworks and expressed in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions, I will examine the values that art can embody, and how valuable to us as reflective beings this form of embodiment can be.
