Tropical Marine Fishes of Australia

book

This book is designed to provide a quick reference to help identify the tropical marine fishes found in Australian waters. Some tropical fishes are commonly found as far south as Rottnest Island in the west, and the southern New South Wales coast in the east, and many of the species found in Australia are also widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific region. So the book provides a valuable resource for those exploring waters well beyond the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo Reef. It also covers remote Australian regions, such as the off shore reefs of north-western Australia and the Coral Sea, both of which diff er markedly in their fish faunas from adjacent inshore reefs. The coverage of species is most comprehensive for rocky and coral reef habitats, from the surface down to around 20m deep. It also covers the fishes found at Lord Howe, Norfolk, and Christmas Islands, and to make it a comprehensive resource for Lord Howe Island, some temperate species have also been included.
