A working understanding of numeracy in the secondary setting
conference contribution
posted on 2023-05-23, 10:11 authored by Ferme, EThis paper reports on a recent qualitative case study that explored the numeracy understanding and practices of a secondary school teacher who did not have formal teaching qualifications in mathematics. Results of the study suggest that although teachers may be able to confidently articulate a definition of numeracy, their working understanding, application of numeracy concepts and propensity to facilitate student learning opportunities in numeracy are less certain.
